Each year, we teachers start out so hopeful and excited to begin the new journey with your child. We come in with hopes and dreams of what the year will be like - and all of those visions include good things for your child. Whilst we are willing to put in the effort, the hours, the creativity, the enthusiasm - having your support results in your child's overall success!

Summer 2

Wow - welcome to our final half term! Like they say - time flies when you're having fun - and we have definitely had lots of fun! We have so much to look forward to in Year 6 this half term, as we begin to prepare children for their transiton to high school. Please make sure you check the diary dates to make sure you don't miss out on any upcoming events! Our half term newsletter is attached below to keep you informed of our learning over the next coming weeks.

Summer 1

It's hard to believe we are already in our Summer Term! I hope you have had a lovely Easter break and that children are well-rested and rearing to go! Please ensure you take a look at this half term's newsletter below so that you can familiarise yourselves with our learning this half term. 

Important dates for your diary

  • Tuesday 16th April - Easter service in Church.
  • Thursday 18th April - Key Stage 2 Egg display – please bring in your fabulous creations!
  • Tuesday 23rd April - St George's Day – all children are welcome to wear red and white
  • Friday 3rd May - Year 6 Class photographs
  • Week Beginning 13th May - YEAR 6 SATs week
  • Tuesday 21st May - Parent Open Afternoon
  • Friday 24th May - Non Uniform Day for a £1 donation. Break up

We have had such a busy week! We have just finished our writing journey based on the text 'The Island' by Armin Greder. What amazing writing we have produced! In art this week, we have really enjoyed starting to think about our new topic - Street Art. We are really looking forward to creating our own 'Throwies' and making our own mark at North Walkden!

A huge well done to all that took part in Worsley Sports this week. You all competed so well and with such determination!

We have had a lovely time in our DT sessions this week. Our task was set by Mrs Gardner to build bridges using straws. A big thank you to Kelson's parents and Sam's step-dad for joining us and rolling up your sleeves and getting stuck in! 




Spring 2

Our class attendance this week meant we achieved 5 minutes


We have started to read our focus text for English this week, 'The Watertower' by Gary Crew. We are thoroughly enjoying this mysterious and eerie text and we have generated lots of ideas to support our writing! We can't wait for you to read them! We have also started to develop our Tennis skills in PE! In Art this week, we started to look at different fashion designs and we are working towards creating our own wallpaper designs. 

Reminders: Please don't forget that next week is World Book Day. Here are things you need to remember:

  • Parent morning (Thursday 9-10 for Reading Cafe)
  • Children to dress up as their favourite book character
  • Book swap

Our class attendance this week meant we achieved 10 minutes

What a week! We have thoroughly enjoyed our World Book Day celebrations! We have twenty-seven different versions of the well-known fairytale, Cinderella! Some are a current twist, some are funny and some just absolutely bonkers! We can't wait for you to read them. You can find them in our Reading Tunnel.

Week 3


Year 6 have really enjoyed this week's tennis lesson with Mr Tierney. We developed our balancing and agility skills. We have also finished our class text 'Holes' which we thoroughly enjoyed! We finished off the week with some lovely creations of the Northern Lights for our classroom display! Wild Crew had lots of fun this week eating hot dogs and making stories using sticks!

Spring 1

Welcome back after what I hope was a relaxing Christmas break! Please continue to take a look at our page every Friday to catch up with our learning. Our topics this term are: South America and Light and Shadow. Our writing will be based on the text "The Viewer" by Gary Crew and Shaun Tan.

We have had a lovely first week back after what sounds like amazing breaks over Christmas! However, we have really enjoyed getting back into the routine of the school day.

We began our new Science topic this week - Light and Shadow - so we decided to make shadow puppets and tell stories to the class with them. Take a look at some of them below:


Week 3

Word of the week winners - Jack and Stefan - well done! Also well done to Luca for a very close 3rd place!

Attendance - This week Year 6 were awarded a Silver trophy! 

What a week! Year 6 thoroughly enjoyed our Martial Arts session on Wednesday. Enso Martial Arts delivered an introductory lesson to all of Year 6. We learned how to do: a flying kick, a controlled chop and some very imprortant self defense moves. Take a look at some of us in action:

Our attendance this week - 99.6% meaning we received a gold award (15 minutes)

Year 6 have had such a busy week. Thank you to all grown ups that joined us on Tuesday for our Parent Open Afternoon. 

Some of our children started Wild Crew this week and had such a fantastic time! We will be sure to post some pictures of them next week!

Attendance - 98.1% - Brilliant! 


This week, Year 6 have been busy making Terracotta Army soldiers using clay. Messy but fun! 

In English, we have been learning about how to use the subjunctive form correctly, ready for our Newspaper articles. 

We have absolutely conquered Ratio in maths this week - well done to all! 

We also sang our half term song in our Music Showcase this week. A class full of angelic voices! 


Our Autumn Learning

Week 1 - What a good start to the new half term - well done to Victoria for achieving a Gold Award this week. A big shout out to Tommy and Ethan who have been awarded a Silver. 


Our word of the week winner this week was Declan - well done for using our word 'abrupt' in a fantastic sentence!

We began our new writing journey this week in English - which if we are being honest - we found quite tough at first. However, by Thursday - we got the hang of it! Mrs Gardner was so relieved! laugh


We thoroughly enjoyed our Science lesson. We had to build our own circuits. Take a look at some of the pictures below:






Week 2

Well done to Ebony this week for achieveing a Gold star!

Our word of the week winner this week was Tommy  - huge well done!  laugh

In our Topic this week, Year 6 have been learning about the roles of women in the 15th Century. We were so interested and shocked to learn about the expected etiquette of women, for example; Women were not allowed to attend a social event without the company of a married man, Women must not cross the street, Women must not walk across the room.

What a week! This week has been anti-bullying week and Year 6 have been really reflecting on how we treat one another at school and at home. We had some very mature ideas and opinions. Some of us came to school on Monday with odd socks (normal for Declan ha!) to show that we are all different. Take a look at some of our feet:



On Friday, we came to school in our own clothes to support the Children in Need charity. I'm sure you'll agree we look fab!


Reminders - Please remember it is Parent's Evening on Wednesday and Year 6 will be visiting Crucial Crew on Thursday.

It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas in Year 6! Our tree is finally up - thank you to all who made and donated decorations!

A big well done to Declan, Kendle, Kacie and Reiss for winning a silver award this week!
