Welcome to Year 2 smiley

I hope you've had a good half term break and are ready to continue our learning!

Tuesday 13th November

This week we received a postcard from Bob! We had to work out who Bob was and what he did for a job. Can you guess?

Monday 12th November 2018

Today we came to school wearing odd socks or wacky tights! We are supporting Anti-bullying week and celebrating everyone being unique :)

Exciting learning this week - 29th October - 2nd November

This week in Science we have been investigating what wood is used for and what objects come from wood. Year 2 were set a challenge!

I hope you've had a lovely summer and are ready for the new school year!

Autumn 1

We have lots of exciting learning ahead of us this half term. The following lets you know a brief outline of what we will be learning about.

In English we will be reading 'Wild' by Emily Hughes. We will be writing amazing setting descriptions and using the animals from the text to write information leaflets about wild animals. We will also be writing our own poems based on 'The Grass House' poem by Shirley Hughes.

In Maths we will be focussing on place value and addition and subtraction. The children will start by reading and writing numbers to at least 100 in numerals and words. We will also be counting forwards and backwards in steps of 2, 3, 5 and 10. Another focus will be understanding the value of each digit in a 2 digit number. In addition to this we will learn to use <, > and = signs correctly.

Our Science topic will be Exploring Everyday Materials. We will be identifying and sorting materials including natural and man-made materials, exploring how and why some materials can change shape and others cannot.

The Great Fire of London and The Gunpowder Plot will be our History topic. We will learn about the events of the fire, where it started and why it began. The children will find out who Samuel Pepys is and about his diary. The children will be able to explain about Bonfire Night and learn about Guy Fawkes and the Gunpowder Plot.
